Junk Silver Coins are being used in Grocery Stores (from: George4title)

Alternative forms of money are around the corner

Talk to anyone who is 40 and over and they'll tell you that a dollar doesn't buy what it used to buy. In fact, that saying is such a cliche that we forget its impact. However, it appears that the power of the dollar may be falling faster than we can imagine.

George4Title is a web Vlogger who was unemployed in 2009. He uploaded many videos which showed the collapsing suburban world of Souther California. I highly recommend you check out his Youtube video.

One of George4Titles best videos shows a family grocery store where you can buy food with junk silver coins. Unlike chain supermarkets, independent family stores are more in tune to the community. And this store has been proactive enough to accept junk silver coins. But the important question is, why would such a store do this?

One answer could be that, by accepting junk silver, the store is hedging against a falling dollar. The store obviously takes in a lot of cash. If the dollar suddenly falls and the price of inventory explodes, the store can buy goods from their wholesaler with silver junk coins.

Another is that the community serves a large immigrant community. And many of these immigrants may have come from countries that had a collapsed economy. And in a collapsed economy, the country's paper money becomes worthless. However, real coins, made of silver and gold, can never become worthless. While we look at people in penthouse offices for financial insight, sometimes it's the people on the street who know what's really going on.

So does that mean you should buy junk silver? Well, it's always a good idea to have emergency supplies. You may not have a blackout, but you have a flashlight. You don't expect to have a fire, but you have smoke alarms. And you may not expect a collapse in the dollar, but it may be a good idea to have a small bag of junk silver coins, just in case.

What are Junk Silver Coins?

Junk silver are old coins, mostly dimes and quarters, which contain real silver in them. Many of these coins include Mercury dimes minted 50 years ago and Washington Quarters minted 40 to 80 years ago. Junk silver coins can contain anything from 30% to 90% silver in it. The U.S. Mint stopped putting silver in the coins when the price of silver made the coins more expensive than their face value. History has shown, from as far back as the Roman Empire, that removing precious metals from coinage is the first sign of a collapsing currency. Junk silver coins are not meant to be collected. They are meant to used an investment vehicle or as an alternative to paper money.
